Porcelain Dental Crown
Porcelain caps enhancing tooth appearance and function
A crown (or cap) is a tooth-shaped covering that covers the whole tooth surface in an effort to improve the tooth’s look or restore the tooth’s original size and form. A crown can restore the structure of a considerably bigger amount of a tooth than a filling can, which can only restore a small portion.
Although a variety of materials can be used to create crowns, porcelain is the most common option since it has a very natural appearance. Although porcelain crowns are quite strong and will survive for many years, they might eventually need to be repaired or replaced, much like the majority of dental restorations.
Reasons for crowns:
- To fix broken, fractured or decayed teeth.
- For cosmetic enhancement.
- To repair fractured fillings.
- For large fillings.
Two appointments are typically needed for a crown operation. Our dentists will take a number of meticulous impressions (molds) during your initial session, which will be utilized to manufacture your personalized porcelain crown. Additionally, a temporary crown will be made from a mold to cover your teeth while a dental lab fabricates your new crown (this process takes around two weeks).
The underlying tooth will be properly cleaned during your second appointment, after which your temporary crown will be removed. Your new crown will then be delicately affixed to the tooth for an exact and cozy fit.
